The Matryomin, created by Japanese theremin innovator and virtuoso, Masami Takeuchi, is basically a small simplified theremin, mounted inside a Russian matryoshka doll. And why not? It’s hand held and you use a stethoscope to hear your own tuning when playing in a group.

I absolutely love how strange this looks.

Beware - this piece of music - “Song of Mable” can be very, very sticky. After two listens it lodged itself in my brain and has never left. That was about 2 years ago.

Beethoven Symphony no 9 in D Minor.

Ode to Joy as you’ve never heard - or seen - it before.

In 2013, a group of Takeuchi’s students - and their students - achieved the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Theremin Ensemble” playing Matryomins - a total of 273 little theremins playing together.

It sounds a bit like I imagine bees would sound if they hummed tunes.
